The activity took place both in the lab and in our amphitheatre, engaging students from different sections. Students were divided into 5 groups, each consisting of 4 members. Prior to the experiment, students brought samples of different substances from home, including lemon juice, soap solution, salt water, and cola drink. Each group tested the pH of their samples using a universal indicator and litmus paper. The results were fascinating! Students observed that acidic substances like lemon juice and cola drink turned both the universal indicator and litmus paper red, indicating a pH below 7. On the other hand, basic substances like soap solution turned both blue, indicating a pH above 7. Salt water, being neutral, showed no significant change in color. Students recorded their observations for further analysis and discussion. This hands-on activity not only helped students understand the concept of pH but also encouraged teamwork, observation, and critical thinking. By using everyday substances, students were able to relate the concept of pH to their daily lives. The experiment sparked curiosity and interest among students, making learning fun and engaging.
